Capital Awards Requiring the FAFSA
Capital University is committed to helping families with the greatest need. The following Capital-sponsored grants and scholarships use the FAFSA to determine eligibility for additional free or gift-aid funding for our students.
- Capital Connect Grant – Need-based tuition award using FAFSA data to determine amount/eligibility.
- Living-Learning Tuition Grant – Need-based tuition award using FAFSA data to determine amount/eligibility for students living in Capital University owned housing.
- Capital Gateway Scholarship – Up to full tuition and term fees through a combination of Capital-sponsored scholarships/grants and federal/state grant aid for students who are Ohio residents, have a high school cumulative GPA of 3.5/4.0 or better, and a family income between $0 and $60,000.
Need-Based Gift Money Requiring the FAFSA
- Federal Pell Grant – Federal grant based on federal EFC available to needy students working toward their first bachelor’s degree
- Ohio College Opportunity Grant – Ohio grant program for students with high need
Education Loans Borrowed by the Student
- Federal Direct Loans – low interest loans borrowed directly from the US Department of Education
- Federal Nursing Loan – Nursing students with federal need may qualify for this low interest loan
- Alternative Loans – Funds can be borrowed by students from private lending institutions in order to assist in paying the costs of college
Education Loan Borrowed by the Parent
- Federal PLUS Loan – federal funds that can be borrowed by the parent or step-parent of a dependent student
Other Funds Available to Help Cover the Costs of College
- Student Employment – students may be eligible to earn regular paychecks for working in a department on campus. These funds can then be used to cover the tuition or any other costs associated with going to college.
- Veterans Benefits – if you or a parent is eligible for VA Education Benefits.
